The first page of all the articles quoted
in the references must be submitted.
o Illustrations
Tables and figures must be restricted to
essentials, without exceeding ten (units of graphic
reproduction). Quality must be excellent.
The size of the illustration in our Journal
may have 80 mm wide (one column) or 167
mm (two columns). The illustrations sent by the
author must have at least the same width up
to a maximum of 210 x 297 mm. If this size is
exceeded, the author must consider the visibility

of details after a size reduction.
The reverse of each illustration must
bear a label with an ID number following the
order of appearance in the text and an arrow
pointing upwards. The cost of colour illustrations
will be chargeable to the author after obtaining
his/her consent.
The illustration captions or footnotes
must be included on a separate page, numbered in
sequential order, briefly explaining the illustration
contents and the meaning of any symbols or
abbreviations. The histological illustrations shall
mention the type of reproduction and whether it
is a dye, as well as method and enlargement.
If using graphic materials of another
author, his/her written consent must be
attached. If identifiable, the people appearing
in the illustrations must provide their written
authorisation and, in the case of persons under
age, this consent must be signed by their legal
representatives. Said authorisations must be
attached to the submission.
For colour illustrations, when obtained
from photographic slides, the original slide must
be attached together with two copies on paper,
or three copies on paper, or three slides. Three
sets shall be sent in black and white.
o Illustrations footnotes
These must be typed using double
space on a separate page, with a maximum length
of 40 words per figure. The text must allow an
understanding of the illustration without having
to read the article text.
Each table must have a title and
sequential number according to its order of
inclusion in the text. Each column must have a
heading. When using symbols, their order or
appearance must be as follows: *, †, ‡, §, , #, **.
The meaning thereof must be explained in the
table footnotes. Abbreviations shall be explained
in the footnote after the symbols. Please use
abbreviations which are commonly known and
widely used in ophthalmologic literature.
• Brief notes
These must be succinct manuscripts
describing technical innovations,
clinicalpathological correlations and clinical cases.
Previously published information is excluded.
