5.1 La pujanza de la economíaespañolaLa economía española inició la década de 1990 sumida enuna profunda recesión. Sirva como ejemplo que el crecimientofue negativo durante 1993. En ese plano la tasa deparo superó de nuevo los dos dígitos. A partir de entoncesse inició una lenta recuperación que cuajó ya entrado elsiglo XXI en un potente proceso de crecimiento.El motor principal de esta coyuntura ha sido el sector dela construcción. Al crecimiento se debe sumar la profundatransformación vivida. Durante esos años la economíaespañola cumplió con los criterios de Maastricht para entraren la moneda única. En ese sentido ha sido fundamentalel equilibrio presupuestario y la contención de la inflación.Este ciclo expansivo se ha frenado bruscamente durante lasegunda mitad de 2007 e inicios de 2008.
