Interview by Francisco Herrera Aráuz, <strong>Ecuador</strong>ianjournalist and Director of <strong>Ecuador</strong> Inmediato.Let’s guide the reader through these three fields:First partINTERVIEW WITH PHILIP AGEE BY JAIME GALARZAIn 1975, Philip Agee, young northamerican with singular talents andpersonality, made famous when he uncovered himself as the ex operationsofficer of the Central Intelligence Agency (<strong>CIA</strong>) of the UnitedStates. He had not only quit years earlier, but also gave the seal a bookthat shook the world, particularly <strong>La</strong>tin <strong>America</strong>n countries, starting with<strong>Ecuador</strong>, Uruguay and Mexico, the three countries where he operatedbetween 1960 and 1968, carrying out the organizations plans of espionageand terrorism. The English title of the work: “Inside the Company.<strong>CIA</strong> Diary”, was soon translated to Spanish as “Diario de la <strong>CIA</strong>”. Underthis name, the Second Independence Movement, which existed at thetime, made a translation of the section corresponding to <strong>Ecuador</strong> andwas published it in 1977.From then until now, November 2014, 37 years have passed manynatural, political and economic tsunamis have occurred on our planet,however, the work has remained with stubborn validity given that, farfrom diminishing, the sinister role of the <strong>CIA</strong> has increased everywhereas conjured by globalization, northamerican empire wars and NATO, theworld capitalist crisis and its fateful fruit: neoliberalism.14
