THE <strong>CIA</strong> AGAINST LATIN AMERICArepressions that in some cases lead to death, murder of the people onthe list. Do you remember any experience of this sort?PA. Yes. One of my tasks in <strong>Ecuador</strong> was to maintain updated the list of“subversive control”. In the beginning, we had 100 to 150 names on thelist, but it was extended throughout the years, up to 300 to 400. Shortlybefore the fall of Arosemena (July 11 th of 1963) I had been working on thislist, it really is a whole file of personalities. The list includes informationsuch as the following: full name, place of residence, workplace, places ofentertainment, hobbies, woman’s name, where you work, school attendedby the children. This facilitates, for example, a quick arrest. This was oneof the tasks of all <strong>CIA</strong> stations in <strong>La</strong>tin <strong>America</strong>, and I think worldwide. Wegot an agent in <strong>Ecuador</strong>: the head of the section of the Ministry of Governmentthat was responsible for identity cards. By this agent we couldobtain the basic data of any <strong>Ecuador</strong>ian, even with photos. The fruit of thisinformation was provided in 1963 to the Minister of Government of themilitary junta, Mora Bowen. The government used the information for theirraids against the left, arresting hundreds of people. They acted based onthe information we gave them. It is even worse in other countries, whererepression is stronger. In Brazil, Argentina and Chile this type of informationprovided by the <strong>CIA</strong> to the security forces is used by groups like theDeath Squadron, the Triple A and other groups of murderers.JG. General Mora Bowen entered the government of the militaryjunta in July 1963, while Warren Dean, head of the <strong>CIA</strong> station in <strong>Ecuador</strong>,was in the United States.
