The impressive entrance hall, with its six-metre high ceiling, immediately and emphatically reminds visitors of those times when it was not a sophisticated hotel, but merely an inn. above all, the old, characteristic structures, in particular the room height and windows, were retained as far as possible. However, the team of architects breathed a good portion of zeitgeist into the old walls through the consistently powerful colours and textures of the new minimalist interior. in the process, the monumental architecture of the building was used like a blank canvass onto which colour and finesse were projected. The modern world also finds its way into the rooms in the design and the technology: travellers, whether business people or holidaymakers, can find peace in today’s eburon, without having to dispense with the blessings (flatscreen TVs that can be watched from the bathtub, ipod connections, etc.). Within this overall skilfully staged dialogue between old and new, the interplay between natural and artificial light on the one hand and shadow on the other is cleverly employed as a decorative element.
