Suite à la sortie du long métrage Le gang des Antillais,<br />
onAir a eu la chance de rencontrer le réalisateur<br />
Jean-Claude Barny, personnalité désormais incontournable<br />
du paysage cinématographique afro-caribéen.<br />
onAir had the opportunity of meeting with the director Jean-Claude<br />
Barny, a leading figure in Afro-Caribbean cinema, following the<br />
release of his full-length feature film, “Le gang des Antillais.”<br />
onAir : Comment avez-vous découvert le livre<br />
Le gang des Antillais de Loïc Léry ?<br />
JCB : Je dois cela à Kenzy du Secteur Ä, qui lors<br />
du tournage du film Neg’Mawon en Guadeloupe,<br />
m’a appelé pour m’en parler. Un A/R en Martinique<br />
plus tard, et me voici en possession d’une histoire<br />
qui fait écho à mon intérêt pour les romans noirs<br />
(NDLR : collection Soul Fiction aux Éditions de l’Olivier)<br />
et, qui plus est, écrite et vécue par un Antillais…<br />
L’ envie d’une adaptation cinématographique a immédiatement<br />
germé !<br />
onAir: How did you learn about Loïc Léry's book,<br />
“Le Gang des Antillais”?<br />
JCB: I owe that to Kenzy of Secteur Ä, who, during<br />
filming of “Neg’Mawon” in Guadeloupe called me to<br />
talk to me about it. One Paris-Martinique roundtrip<br />
later, I was in possession of a story that resonated with<br />
my own interest for noir fiction (Editor’s note: Soul<br />
Fiction collection published by Éditions de l’Olivier)<br />
and, moreover, is written and experienced by a West<br />
Indian. The desire to create a film adaptation was<br />
immediately planted!<br />
