partir en randonnée à Ambatoharanana. Ce
bourg situé au nord de la Ville des Mille a
joué un rôle stratégique dans l’élargissement
du royaume Merina.
Vous partirez d’Andakana, une petite commune se
trouvant en contrebas du Palais Royal d’Ambohimanga.
Mêlé aux paysages imprenables d’Analamanga, vous
apercevrez le Doany d’Ankazomalaza. Ce site sacré est
vénéré par les personnes désirant demander les faveurs
des ancêtres. Le nom de cet endroit « le fameux arbre »

terre rouge datant du 19ème siècle ! Caractéristique des
habitations dans les Hautes Terres, ce mur a été construit
avec un mélange de bouse de zébu, de la terre rouge et des
chaumes, posé par assises successives. Vous mesurerez
l’importance sociale de la famille habitant les lieux au
nombre de niveaux que compte la clôture de la demeure.
Lorsque vous arriverez à Ambatoharanana, se dressera
devant vous une église bâtie en 1878 par les missionnaires

century! Characteristic of dwellings in the Highlands, this wall
was built with a mixture of zebu dung, red earth and stubble, laid
down by successive layers. You will measure the social importance
of the family inhabiting each place by the level of the fence.

littéralement ceux qui domptent les hommes –, leur
mission était de parer aux éventuelles offensives venant du
peuple de l’ouest.

When you arrive in Ambatoharanana, you will meet a church
built by the Anglican missionaries in 1878. The site also houses
the only Anglican theology school in Madagascar. You will be
impressed by the architecture of these buildings.
Your journey will lead you to Imerimandroso – meaning
progressing Imerina – a strategic location for King
Andrianampoinimerina. The latter, in his conquest of new
territories, had placed his elements in this village. Called the
Manindrilahy – literally translated those who tame the men – their
mission was to ward off possible offensives coming from the
people of the west.
