DESTINATIONS Le temps de vos vacances à Majunga, arrangez-vous pour visiter le lac sacré de Mangatsa ! Ce havre de paix situé à 18 km de la ville est un haut lieu de la culture Sakalava. Dans cette étendue d’eau translucide et peu profonde, vous verrez des gros poissons et des anguilles qui n’hésiteront pas à approcher les rives. Le lac est bordé de tamariniers « sacrés » entourés de tissus rouges et blancs. Selon la légende, ce lieu abritait un petit village. Un ancien roi Sakalava aurait demandé à un guérisseur de soigner son fils malade. Mais le sorcier a échoué et a été banni de la cité. Celui-ci, voulant se venger, aurait transformé le village en lac et ses habitants en poissons. D’autres sources révèlent que ce lac a été découvert et aménagé par Philibert Tsiranana, le premier président de Madagascar. Ce dernier aurait été impressionné par le fait que l’eau jaillit du fond sous forme de petites éruptions. Cet endroit vous paraîtra étrange pour faire du pique-nique, mais dites-vous que si le site est respecté à ce point, c’est parce que c’est avant tout un lieu de culte. Des gens s’y rendent pour formuler des vœux et pour, en échange, déposer des offrandes – du miel et des pièces de monnaie. Le gardien du lac donne ensuite de la viande hachée ou de la mie de pain aux poissons en guise de remerciements aux esprits des rois Sakalava. Lorsqu’une personne obtient une réponse favorable, celle-ci retourne sur les lieux pour faire un sacrifice ; elle noue un tissu blanc et un tissu rouge autour du tamarinier sacré pour remercier les ancêtres. In this translucent and shallow body of water, you will see large fishes and eels that will not hesitate to approach the shores. The lake is lined with "sacred" tamarind trees surrounded by red and white fabrics. According to the legend, this place sheltered a small village. A former king Sakalava would have asked a healer to cure his sick son. But the sorcerer failed and was banned from the city. The latter wanted to take revenge, transformed the village into a lake and its inhabitants into fishes. Other sources reveal that this lake was discovered and landscaped by Philibert Tsiranana, the first president of Madagascar. The latter would have been impressed by the fact that water springs out from the bottom of the lake in the form of small eruptions. To you, this place would seem strange to picnic at, but consider that if the site is so respected, it is because it is above all a place of worship. People come there to make wishes and, in exchange, to give offerings – honey and pieces of money. The guardian of the lake then gives some minced meat or bread crumbs to the fishes as a thank-you to the spirits of the Sakalava kings. When a person gets a favorable response, he/she returns there to make some sacrifice; he/she ties a white cloth and a red cloth around the sacred tamarind tree to thank the ancestors.
