DESTINATIONS La ville de Fénérive-Est ou Fenoarivo Atsinanana en Malgache se trouve à l’origine de la formation du peuple Betsimisaraka. Alors que la région était habitée par l’ethnie des Antanaratra, ces derniers furent expulsés de leurs terres par les Tsimbala, un clan rival. Mais avec le futur roi Ratsimilaho, fils de la princesse Rahena et du pirate britannique Thomas White, à leur tête, ils ont pu reconquérir leur territoire pour fonder en 1712 l’ethnie Betsimisaraka. Les forbans d’Europe venaient jusqu’à Fenoarivo Atsinanana pour échanger des marchandises avec les Antanaratra. Vous pouvez faire un tour au vieux fort de la ville bâti en 1820 pour voir les vestiges de cette époque. Votre séjour à Fénérive-Est rime aussi avec nature et découverte. Vous pouvez visiter les plantations de girofle, cannelle, poivre, café, dont les senteurs ne manqueront pas de réveiller vos sens. La forêt primaire dans l’arrière-pays mérite également le détour. Vous y observerez une grande variété d’orchidées sauvages. As that region was inhabited by the Antanaratra ethnic group, they were expelled from their lands by the Tsimbala, a rival clan. However with the lead of the future King Ratsimilaho, son of Princess Rahena and British pirate Thomas White, they were able to reconquer their territory and founded the Betsimisaraka ethnic group in 1712. The peaceful town of Fénérive-Est will make you happy if you are passionate about the history of piracy. This coastal city was a port for pirates in the 17th century. European pirates came as far as Fenoarivo Atsinanana to exchange goods with the Antanaratra. You can take a tour at the old city fort built in 1820 to see the vestiges of that time. Your stay in Fénérive-Est also rhymes with nature and discovery. You can visit the plantations for clove, cinnamon, pepper and coffee, whose scents will not fail to awaken your senses. The primary forests in its countryside is also worth a visit. You will observe a wide variety of wild orchids.
