Le Caméléon Brookisia
On ne compte pas moins de 150 espèces de caméléons
dans le monde. Sachez qu'environ la moitié se trouve à
Madagascar, et 59 d'entre elles sont endémiques. Leur
taille varie de 20 mm à 69 cm. Les Brookesia appartiennent
aux espèces de petite taille. Ces caméléons sont difficiles
à observer puisqu'ils se confondent parfaitement avec leur
environnement. Si les autres caméléons sont arboricoles,
les Brookesia sont eux, principalement terrestres. On
distingue le Brookesia perarmata de 11 cm et le Brookesia
micra mesurant moins de 3cm. De couleur brune et
grise, ils ont parfois des excroissances osseuses ou bien
dermatologiques qui masquent leur forme . Quel que
soit le support sur lequel ils reposent : branches, feuilles
mortes ou mousse, ces espèces développent un parfait
mimétisme avec la matière concernée.
Ces caméléons sont difficiles
à observer puisqu'ils se
confondent parfaitement
avec leur environnement.
Brookesia Chameleon
There are no less than 150 species of chameleons
in the world, half of them in Madagascar, 59 of
which are endemic. Their size can vary between
20mm and 69cm. The Brookesia is a small-sized
species. This chameleon is difficult to find,
since it blends in so well with its surroundings.
While the other chameleons are arboreal, the
Brookesia is mainly a land-based animal. There
are two categories: the Brookesia Perarmata
that is 11cm long and the Brookesia Micra that
is 3cm long. It has a brown and grey skin, and
can also have bone or skin excrescences that
hide its true form. No matter what it is standing
on (branches, dead leaves or moss), this species
perfectly replicates the material concerned.
This chameleon is
difficult to find, since it
blends in so well with its
surroundings.
