For “Basque language and Society”
week, organized annually by “Jakin”,
the magazine calls upon the majority
nationalist political parties (abertzales)
of the Autonomous Basque
Community (Euskadi) for an exposure
of their general guidelines on linguistic
policy and its application, both
within the party and within three important
social areas: education, mass
media and Public Administration.

c o n f e rence of North Euskadi’s
Nationalist parties (EA, EB, EMA,
I PAR BURU BILTZARRA, EAJ/PNV) ,
who were sent the following schemes:
valuation of the presence of Euskara
in North Euskadi (Iparralde) in
education, mass media and
Administration; valuation of the
Linguistic Plans of South Euskadi’s
parties, and a critique of the vision
held by South Euskadi’s political
parties vis-à-vis North Euskadi.
THE LINGUISTIC POLICY OF EAJ/PNV

In these slow but hopeful times of
national re s h u ffle, EAJ/PNV wish to
display their determination to contribute
to normalizing the use of the
Basque Language (Euskara).
The Basque Language (Euskara) in
EAJ/PNV’s opinion, has never experienced,
throughout its history, such a
recognition and support as it receives
nowadays in dif f e rent fields (Education,
Mass Media, Administration...).
On the other hand it is also
true that the Basque Language
(Euskara) has never been in such a
critical situation as it is now (Basque
speakers in minority, Basque illiteracy,
the receding vitality of the Basque
language...). These are the r e a s o n s
why the outspreading of its knowledge,
as well as its use in every field
