There is not asingle part of the country without the ancient buildings, sites of ancienttowns or villages, churches, castles, bridges of the pre-antique period or theMiddle Ages. The paper underlines, that Medieval Georgian Architecture has beeninfluenced by many civilizations. There are several different architecturalstyles for castles, towers, fortifications and churches. The "Jvari" (Cross)Cathedral in Mtskheta and Oskhi, Khakhuli or Tbeti, "The BagratiCathedral" in Kutaisi are some of the finest examples of medieval Georgiancastle architecture. The paper emphasises, that Georgian ecclesiastic art is one of themost fascinating aspects of Georgian Christian architecture, whichcombines classical dome style with original basilica style. Georgian culturestrongly emphasizes individualism and this is expressed through theallocation of interior space in Georgian churches. The most important thingis that the characteristic compactness of such dwelling places and theirerectness, is characteristic of the whole Georgian architecture of the MiddleAges and new times as well, thus, being an essential national feature.168
