Atmospheres
The kitchen often serves as the focal point of the
home. Here, after all, is where interaction, communication
and transfer take place. Nevertheless,
it must be noted that the bathroom is shifting more
and more into the centre of the living environment.
Man is a social creature – but he is also an individual.
In this sense, the bathroom of tomorrow uses
current technology and the possibilities that come
with it to create or orientate atmospheres that rouse
the most senses. In this way we quite tangibly enhance
the experience “water”, for example, in order
to intensify and strengthen it. At the end there stands
a whole experience, which responds to our individual
sensation and can even transform it.
One of our concrete forthcoming projects is to offer,
curate and continually develop these new, individual
room atmospheres from a single source. Read more
about this in “Shortcuts” from page 013 onwards.
Against this background, the current work in the
“Dornbracht Edges” series obtains its relevance.
For “Revolving Realities”, presented in January at
the Passagen 2010 show in Cologne, is a reactive
installation, which plays with our perception of
reality. How can a place or an object be repeatedly
perceived (atmospherically) in a new way? Read
more about this too in “Shortcuts” from page 013
onwards.
An interview which we conducted with one of the
most famous international spa developers and
Mike Meiré, the creator of the Dornbracht ritual
bathrooms, likewise relates to the changed format
of the bathroom: “The professional care in a spa is
compensated in a personified ritual bathroom by
internal dialogue,” says Mike Meiré. You can read
about the public “bathroom” experience and the
private “bathroom” experience from page 098
onwards.
With the tagline “Home based player”, in this edition
we would like to start a new series, which in
addition to the subject of “the future” – certainly a
central theme for Dornbracht – also deals with the
subject of “origin”. A glance at Iserlohn by Gerhard
Samulat, a journalist for Geo magazine, in our family
business marks the beginning of this section
from page 066 onwards. At this point, in the next
issue (so you know in advance) we would like to go
into more depth on the subject of “manufacturing
quality and premium production”, for example.
The project “Global Street Food”, which like
“Revolving Realities” was initiated as part of
the “Dornbracht Edges” series in 2009 by Mike
Meiré, has not only Germany, but the whole
world as its theme. “Global Street Food”, which
had its debut at the Passagen 2009 show in
cologne, subsequently went on tour. The Vitra
Design Museum displayed the project as an
accompaniment to the “Antibodies. Works by
Fernando & Humberto Campana 1989–2009”
exhibition during the Art Basel show. You can
read the “Account of the journey” from
page 210 onwards.
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to an
article by Petra Schmidt. This article, from
page 034 onwards, deals with the “Nude” world of
taste and colour, which covers all nuances that are
subtly reminiscent of skin colours. A trend, which
has made its way into our living environments
beyond the field of clothes and fashion.
And thus also into the bathroom.
Yours sincerely, Andreas Dornbracht
Offrire e organizzare dello stesso fornitore queste
nuove atmosfere ambientali personalizzate ed
evolverle costantemente, rappresenta uno dei nostri
prossimi progetti concreti.
Infatti “Revolving Realities”, presentata a
come esperienza pubblica e “bagno” come esperienza
privata si rimanda a pagina 098 e seguenti.
Con “Home based player” vorremmo iniziare, a partire
all’argomento “futuro” – senz’altro un tema fondamentale
per Dornbracht – tratti anche l’argomento
“origine”.
Meiré come “Revolving Realities” nell’ambito
della serie “Dornbracht Edges” del 2009. “Global
Fernando & Humberto Campana 1989–2009“
(Anticorpi. In mostra i lavori di Fernando e Humberto
Campana 1989-2009) nell’ambito dell’Art
Basel.
nostri mondi quotidiani.
Anche in bagno.
