La cava di Cespedosio di Camerata Cornello e il
laboratorio di Piazza Brembana quest’anno sono
stati meta dell’annuale incontro di giugno che i
marmisti lombardi fanno per far conoscere le pietre
delle tradizioni e, in questo caso, anche per
ricordare il cavalier Paolino Gervasoni, chiamato
affettuosamente dai colleghi “òl Paolino” uno dei
grandi protagonisti del nostro tempo anche nello
sviluppo sostenibile e nel rispetto della natura.

The visit of colleagues from Lombardy to
the Semea .........
which can also become orange and grey or
various shades of grey. It is a marble that has
been present throughout the history of art and
architecture in Italy from the flooring of St. Peter‚s
in Rome, where Michelangelo‚s Pietà stands, to
the present-day flooring of private and public
buildings, such as the new Bergamo Fair and the
new university campus in Dalmine. Appreciated
by planners and designers for its many uses, it is
currently gaining success with the new techniques
of satin finishing and in split cuts for external use.
Paolo Gervasoni passed away a few months ago.
Already ill, he asked to go back to visit the quarry
that he ran with great respect, almost love. In his
words: “The mountain feeds you but you have to
love and respect it. The mountain belongs to
everyone but no-one must speculate on it. Once
the quarries were exploited, now they are
cultivated. I love nature, I would like the quarry to
be like a garden. In the past the mountains were
torn down to extract a small quantity of material.
Now we go forward step by step, wasting nothing,
working only in those parts where we can find the
material we need. “None of this wealth must be
thrown away.”
The Cespedosio quarry in Camerata Cornello and
the Piazza Brembana laboratory were this year‚s
destination for the annual June meeting where
marble workers from Lombardy show and explain
the traditional stone. This year the meeting was
also held in memory of Paolino Gervasoni, known
by colleagues as “ol Paolino”, one of the great
characters of our times and one of the pioneers
of sustainable development and respect of nature.
