Responsibility to our human resources<br />

The traditional production system is founded on three factors:<br />

capital, raw materials and labour. The ethical and social value<br />

of labour is fundamental to our businesses. Our factory workers,<br />

clerks, supervisors and executives are our Human Resources, the<br />

true wealth of our Group. The people who work for us are not<br />

merely our workforce or employees. By calling them Human Resources<br />

we want to emphasize the importance of giving everyone<br />

who works with us the responsibility of carrying on the business.<br />

Our people are involved not only in production but also in product<br />

creation and promotion; they are members of a partnership<br />

that goes beyond the traditional employer–employee relationship.<br />

Work is not only a means of subsistence but also a source of<br />

personal achievement and fulfi lment. For this reason we believe<br />

that it is our primary duty to ensure the health and safety of all<br />

our people and provide them with training, clear guidelines and<br />

satisfying jobs.<br />

Our Group operates across the globe and we encounter different<br />

customs, laws and regulations in every country where we are<br />

based. We think all of our employees should be provided with the<br />

same health and safety standards and opportunities for personal<br />

fulfi lment, whether they work in Italy, Romania, Brazil, Germany<br />

or China. However, in return for this we ask for greater commitment.<br />

We demand skill, responsibility and creativity. The unhappy<br />

state of affairs in some of our markets compels us to put<br />

our complete trust in our men and women. They are the ones<br />

who are responsible for giving our products and production processes<br />

the best quality possible. We ask them to be resourceful<br />

and accountable in all they do. Because to be competitive you<br />

have to pursue continual improvement. We realize that, over and<br />

above production and sales, the strength of our businesses lies<br />

in the rationalization of processes along with carefulness and<br />

concentration on the job to forestall problems, waste, injuries<br />

and avoidable costs.<br />

Our human resources are mostly factory workers (over 70%)<br />

employed in 15 countries worldwide. Compared to last year the<br />

total staff has decreased, as the result of an internal reorganiza-
