He’d keep up to date on the problems that were still open and the ones that we had dealt with and solved.“ Health and safety in the workplace For us ensuring the health and safety of our human resources is a matter of absolute principle. It stems from our vision of the work ethic and our respect for applicable laws and regulations. We take it as our duty and responsibility to make provision for health and safety at all our production sites. We grant the same guarantee to all our workers, whether they are Italian, German, Swiss, Brazilian or American. And we go beyond the local laws in force in the various countries, by providing a uniform safety system for everyone. Reducing the number of occupational injuries and the causes of occupational illnesses is vital. Every injury means grave harm to the worker, as well as a cost for the company due to a reduction in the total number of hours worked and the related decrease in productivity. We must put injuries on an equal footing with any other loss that can be assessed in monetary terms, that is, any reduction in the number of injuries translates into signifi cant savings for the Group. 80 2005 Medical checks Clinical tests Other tests Preventive actions 2,789 2,788 4,514 RadiciGroup takes a twofold approach to health and safety: training and prevention. Training includes group-wide implementation of good corporate practice with the goal of improving work organization and day-to-day management in order to reduce risks. We rely heavily on teamwork and our workers’ sense of responsibility. Being careful at work is for the good of the company, but most importantly for each worker’s own good and the good of his or her co-workers. Prevention means safeguarding the health of everyone. At work, employees may come into contact—sometimes by accident—with substances used in the production process that may be harmful to human health. For this reason, during 2005 we carried out 2,789 preventive medical checks, 2,788 clinical tests (blood and urine tests) and a total of 4,514 additional tests (electrocardiograms, spirometry, audiometry and Ergovision tests, etc.).
