“Up to 1995 I knew the entrepreneur, a great entrepreneur. After 1995 I got to know the patriarch.
He was a patriarch in all respects, even more so during his illness.“
Energy consumption, energy sources
and waste management
Energy is the capacity of a body or a physical system to do work.
This is the classic defi nition of energy. Simply put, it means that
without energy we cannot do work, without energy we cannot
produce. We are an industrial Group with production sites that
use large quantities of energy. Liquid fuels meet 68% of our
Group’s total energy needs, while electric power purchased from
outside sources covers roughly 30%. Over the last few years we
have maintained the same level of total energy consumption
but have changed the mix of energy sources. We have lowered
the usage of gas fuels (-18%), solid fuels (-10%) and self-produced
energy (-30%) and increased the consumption of purchased
electric power (+11%).
Our goal for the future is to make better use of energy: we would
92
like to produce more and more goods, using less and less energy.
Better use of energy would save energy and money, as well as
benefi t the environment and our health. We aim to improve energy
effi ciency and thus would like to supply our Italian plants
with energy produced by Radici Energie.
This strategy would eliminate the need to purchase energy
from third parties and allow us to provide our sites with energy
from renewable sources such as hydroelectric and cogeneration
plants. Cogeneration is a particularly effi cient solution for producing
low temperature heat for heating systems by reclaiming
and utilizing the waste heat emitted during the generation of
electricity. Cogeneration plants allow for the combined production
of electric power and heat. This is the direction we will
increasingly be taking in the future.
