Aggression is one of the heaviest illnesses of
our social life which actively aggravates in the
modern society and becomes inseparable part of
our life. According to the psychoanalytical model
of aggression created by S. Freud and adherents of
the biological theory which states that aggression is
a consequence of frustration, destruction and instinct
of death, a sociological research has shown that the
youth aggressiveness takes a form of unsatisfied
wishes, reaching one’s ideals, lack of self-expression.
It can also be influenced by catharsis – when
negative emotions are transferred to another object.
The paper analyses youth aggressiveness as well as
public attitude formed by the mass media towards
the members of subcultures of skinheads and football
fans (so-called ultras). The aim of this research is
to reveal, sift and describe youth aggressiveness
reasons in Lithuania subcultures such as skinheads
(nationalist attitude) and ultras (extreme football-fans).
The research of semi-structured interview took place
in two Lithuania cities, in leisurely places beloved
by mentioned youth subcultures. 6 skinheads and

THE EXPRESSION OF AGGRESSION OF LITHUANIA’S SKINHEADS AND
EXTREME FOOTBALL FANS ULTRA’S
SUMMARY

5 ultras took part in the research. It is believed that
the members of those subcultures are too much
stigmatized in the society which, being unaware of
their moral values and subculture ideology, very often
gives to them unjustified labels of aggressiveness,
xenophobia and racism. The research based on
analysis of semi-structured interviews with members
of these sub-cultures has revealed that they do not
take aggressive attitude towards the particular nation
or race; however, they express their strong positions
as to cultural, political and social integration of other
national minorities residing in Lithuania. The method
of research was deep structural interviews which were
aimed at comparison of patriotic youth’s members of
the subcultures of skinheads and football fans ultras
Moral values, ideals and motives for joining a particular
subculture, as well as expression of masculism and
patriotism in these subcultures are normal for young
people with strong moral values, sometimes breaking
the rules as the majority of modern young people do.
