STATUS<br />
In line with the rest of the year, a great<br />
number of registrations characterized the<br />
period 15 November 2<strong>01</strong>8 – 15 January<br />
2<strong>01</strong>9. Fifty-five previously unregistered<br />
pleasure crafts, 40 smaller workboats, 36<br />
fishing vessels, 4 car ferries and 4 various<br />
vessels entered the NOR. The distribution<br />
between vessel types follows the trend we<br />
have seen over a long period. Even though<br />
summer is the high season for pleasure crafts,<br />
it is quite apparent that owners of these<br />
vessels take advantage of the winter months<br />
to establish their ownership, says Ole<br />
Kamlund, Head of Section with the<br />
Department of Ship Registration. That way,<br />
they are prepared for spring and the new<br />
season. Changes of ownership of vessels that<br />
are already in the NOR are carried out. The<br />
number of registered changes of ownership<br />
have increased yearly from 1 873 in 2<strong>01</strong>4 to<br />
2 263 in 2<strong>01</strong>8. That is well in tune with the<br />
development in the size of the fleet.<br />
VESSEL MORTGAGES<br />
Owners of vessels in the NOR can take up<br />
loans with the vessel as collateral. There has<br />
also been an increase in the number of<br />
mortgage registrations. In 2<strong>01</strong>8 5 032<br />
mortgage registrations were carried out as<br />
