UFP e a Associação Portuguesa
de Dirigentes de Instituições de
Ensino de Engenharia
A cerimónia oficial de criação da Associação Portuguesa de Dirigentes
de Instituições de Ensino de Engenharia (APDI2E) teve lugar
ainda em 2010, no Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto.
A UFP associou-se a esta iniciativa através do Director da Faculdade
de Ciência e Tecnologia, Prof. Doutor Álvaro Monteiro,
que se tornou num dos seus membros fundadores.
Esta Associação tem por missão a melhoria do ensino e da investigação
na área da Engenharia, pretendendo, por isso, agregar
todos os dirigentes da rede nacional de instituições de ensino
com cursos superiores em engenharia, sejam escolas, faculdades,
institutos ou universidades, públicos, privados ou concordatário.
A existência de mais de sessenta instituições de ensino de Engenharia
em Portugal, e a necessidade de existir uma estrutura
nacional, que possa representar a missão e os objectivos, a
nível nacional de organizações internacionais como a EEDC
– European Engineering Deans Council, e a GEDC - Global Engineering
Deans Council, estrutura que actua a nível mundial,
bem como representar os interesses da Engenharia a nível nacional,
foram algumas das razões base desta Associação. Essa
necessidade da criação de uma estrutura de coordenação ao
nível dos Dirigentes de instituições de Ensino de Engenharia,
para uma maior eficiência na defesa e promoção dos interesses
próprios da profissão, na perspectiva da Educação e Formação,
era, de há muito, sentida no nosso país.
O promotor da criação desta associação foi o Professor Doutor
José Carlos Quadrado, Presidente do Instituto Superior de
Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) e actual Presidente da Comissão
Executiva da APDI2E.

Association of Directors of
Engineering Teaching Institutions
The official ceremony to mark the foundation of the Portuguese
Association of Directors of Engineering Teaching Institutions
(APDI2E) was held in 2010, at the School of Engineering in Porto.
The UFP was represented in this initiative by the Head of the
Faculty of Science and Technology, Prof Álvaro Monteiro, who is
one of its founder members.
The purpose of this Association is to improve teaching and re-
search in the area of the Engineering and it therefore intends to
bring together all the heads of the national network of teaching
institutions with university-level engineering courses, whether
they are schools, faculties, institutes or universities, and public,
private or concordat.
The existence of more than sixty institutions teaching Engineering
in Portugal and the need for a national structure to represent the
mission and objectives of international organisations such as the
EEDC – European Engineering Deans Council, and the GEDC -
Global Engineering Deans Council, a structure that acts globally,
as well as to represent the interests of Engineering at a national
level, were some of the reasons that led to the creation of this
Association. In addition, there was a need to create a coordination
structure on the level of Directors of Engineering Teaching
Institutions, to more effectively defend and promote the specific
interests of the profession, from the perspective of Education and
Training.
The driving force behind the creation of this association was Prof
José Carlos Quadrado, President of the Lisbon Higher Institute of
Engineering (ISEL) and current Chairman of the Executive Committee
of APDI2E.
