Resumo
Summary
Ascaris lumbricoides e Trichuris trichiura.
maior eficiência no diagnóstico coproparasitológico, tanto
Coproparasitological diagnosis: methods comparation
between Faust et al., Lutz and Ritchie modified
by Young
Enteroparasites represent a problem of public health, mainly in
children, which can determinate significant organic alterations. The
specific diagnosis of these parasites is based on the identification of
parasitic structures in feces of parasited persons. The use of techniques
with different basis increases the efficiency of diagnosis and
reduces, significantly, false-negative results. The aim of this study was
to evaluate the efficiency of the method of Ritchie modified by Young
comparing its results with gotten by the methods of Faust et al and
Lutz. We studied samples of 72 individuals from Niterói, RJ. Among
these, 32 (44.4%) were positive for at least one of the techniques
and 40 (55.5%) were negative for all three methods. Faust et al.
method presented positivity in 25/72 (34.7%) individuals, Lutz in
24/72 (33.3%) and Ritchie modified by Young in 30/72 (41.6%).
The method of Ritchie modified by Young had more sensitivity in the
detection of Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica and Blastocystis
hominis, being also capable to evidence Ascaris lumbricoides and
Trichuris trichiura eggs. Based on these results, we concluded that
the technique of Ritchie modified by Young presented efficiency
in the coproparasitological diagnosis as much in the detection of
helminths as protozoan.
