22O PAPEL - Junho 2010CADERNO BRACELPABRACELPA REPORTNatio<strong>na</strong>l Solid Waste Policy offersopportunities for the sectorApproved by the House of Representativeson March 10,2010, after 19 years on theagenda, the Natio<strong>na</strong>l SolidWaste Policy (PNRS) seeks to align theinterests of all economic sectors. Duringthis period, several bills were added tothe fi<strong>na</strong>l text, in view that 148 proposalsreferred to the subject, and a uniquebill of law was needed to strengthen theinitiative. The Brazilian Pulp and PaperAssociation (Bracelpa) played an activerole in formulating the issues that relatedto the sector, providing information,evaluating proposals and suggestingalter<strong>na</strong>tives whenever necessary.“I have learned a lot working withthe Association and companies and, inmy opinion, there exist various opportunitiesfor the pulp and paper sectorto strengthen good practices and consolidateexisting production systems andprocesses”, said House representativeAr<strong>na</strong>ldo Jardim (PPS/SP), who coordi<strong>na</strong>tedthe Solid Waste work group thatwas responsible for preparing the billof law which, until the closing date ofthis issue, was still being a<strong>na</strong>lyzed bythe Se<strong>na</strong>te. “The priority of the PNRS(Natio<strong>na</strong>l Solid Waste Policy) is to notgenerate waste. Those who still haven’tperceived the importance and the positiveimpacts of this measure will becomeconvinced on account of their businessdemands”, said the politician.To discuss the theme with member
