Longboarding is the most popular surfing category
in Jericoacoara. It embodies the magic of the sport
that Polynesian kings used to practice in the Hawaiian
islands. This appeal has crossed centuries, and today
longboarding is one of the most widely practiced
water sports and recreation activities on the planet.
The sense of freedom, pleasure, and all the energy
we feel from the sea as we ride a wave has persisted
through the years, bringing joy to all those people who
venture into this universe.
Jericoacoara boasts some of the best surfing
conditions in Brazil. Its main beach, known as Praia
da Frente (Front Beach), has waves that break with
absolute perfection over a long shallow sand and
stone seabed. On some days of the year, you can ride a
wave for more than 300 meters, making Jeri a unique
and magical place for surfing.

Learning how to surf on a longboard in Jeri is a
blessing. The depth, water temperature, the position
of the beach, along with the availability of equipment
and instructors in the many surfing schools, contribute
to make this little piece of paradise a true amusement
park, bringing pleasure to everyone, from beginners to
professional athletes, who can enjoy a unique wave.
The longboarder Carlos Clécio, best known as “Louro
da Pena”, was the first person to surf on a longboard
in Jeri, in the late 1990s. Originally from Fortaleza,
like many others, he was once visiting the beach and
decided to settle there. After seeing a great potential
for growth, Louro opened the first surf shop in the
village, and later the first surf school, Jeriaquasports,
open to this day. For all this, Jeri has produced great
longboarders, discovering talents day after day.
And what began with Louro da Pena has grown.
Nowadays, when surfing conditions are good, you
can see dozens of longboarders on the outside -
where surfers wait for their wave -, men and women
of all ages having a great time riding the perfect long
waves of Praia da Frente. At the same time, on the
beach, surf instructors give all support so that the
tourists can enjoy the pleasure similar to that of the
Hawaiian kings.
