TOURS IN JERICOACOARA
EAST COAST
Despite the natural beauty of the village of
Jericoacoara, with its sandy streets and magnificent
beaches, the iconic Pedra Furada (Holed Stone), the
Morro do Serrote (Saw Hill), and the Duna do Pôr
do Sol (Sunset Dune) are essential tours for anyone
visiting the region.
Among the tours on the east coast, a good tip is
to include the main tourist attractions such as the
Pedra Furada (Holed Stone), the Árvore da Preguiça
(Lazy Tree), Preá Beach, Barrinha and the Blue and
Paradise lagoons.
HOLED STONE
Going to Jericoacoara and not visiting Pedra Furada
is like going to Juazeiro and not seeing Father
Cicero; going to Paris and not visiting the Eiffel
Tower; going to Venice and not going on a gondola
ride along the canals.
Pedra Furada is the most famous attraction in Jeri
and one of the most appreciated and easiest tours.
You can go walking, by buggy, on horseback, or
by horse cart. The Stone is about 3 km far from the
center of the village.
At low tide, you can walk there along the beach. At
high tide, you can take the Serrote trail. The average
walking time is 40 minutes. It is not recommended
for people with limited mobility. For those who
prefer to go along the beach, the tip is to hire a
guide who knows the tide time well, and can show
you some interesting stone formations along the
way, like the Alligator and the Turtle Stones.
LAZY TREE
The Lazy Tree, whose scientific name is Conocarpus
Erectus, is popularly known as Button Mangrove.
The strong sea winds have bent and shaped the
tree, and it seems to be lying down or crawling on
the ground. It is worth a quick stop for a photo.
PREÁ BEACH
Although not widely known by the public, Preá
beach (an allusion to a small rodent from the region,
the Brazilian guinea pig) is mainly frequented by
kitesurfers, who visit it all year long because of its
strong and constant winds. Preá beach is also the
home of the biggest kitesurfing school in Brazil,
Rancho do Kite.
The village infrastructure has grown considerably
with new kite schools, restaurants and hostelry.
Moreover, with the paved access from highway
CE085 to the seat of the village, Preá beach has
become an attractive access to Jericoacoara.
