Duna do pôr do sol, com vista para
o mar. Um dos melhor lugares
para contemplar um final de tarde.
Sunset dune with a view to the
sea. One of the best places to
contemplate sunset.
They arrived at the beach, were loaded on ships, and
then taken to be sold in warehouses in Camocim.
Time passed by and Jericoacoara, or rather,
Serrote, as it was known at the time, became an
important center of distribution of goods with the
construction of large storage sheds. Colonel Ismael,
Seu Patriarca, Seu Zé Carvalho, Seu Zé Araújo were
all warehouse owners. Seu Mané Salustiano had
three warehouses, one for starch, another one for
corn, and another one for flour only.
Trade expanded and goods were already sold to
Fortaleza and Rio Grande do Norte in large boats
that carried up to 2000 bags. Time passed by slowly
and the small village lived in natural isolation due to
the geography of the place, which made it difficult
for visitors to access the village.
However, in the mid-1970s, according to Isabel
Afonso, an American citizen and his guide coming
on horseback from Acaraú, where he had left his
car, knocked at her door around 6:00 in the evening,
and asked for shelter.
there. That was long enough to make residents
aware of how profitable tourism can be, because
the money used to pay for accommodation, fish
and other goods helped the economy of the village.
After his departure, some other tourists began to
arrive and advertise this paradise surrounded by
blue lagoons and white sand dunes, where the sun
shines and the wind blows all year long.
And like an “El Dorado” full of natural jewelry, an
article published in a specialized magazine showing
a bit of this earthly paradise was just enough to
make Jericoacoara, in just over three decades since
that lost night in 1970, one of the most popular
tourist spots on the planet.
Nowadays, Jericoacoara is considered one of the ten
most beautiful beaches in the world, where you can
find beautiful people, fine food, excellent service,
parties, sports and accommodation for all tastes.
The American turned out to be the first foreign
guest to stay in Jericoacoara. He was so amazed by
the place that ended up spending eight months
