JERICOACOARA CULTURE LONGBOARD FESTIVAL
In 2007, after being invited by Miller Chicaroni and
Alexandre Nocrato, the surfing activist and event
producer Marcelo Bibita organized the first edition of
the JERICOACOARA CULTURA LONGBOARD FESTIVAL..
At that time, they did not expect much, and only local
competitors participated. The champion in the Open
category was Sassá, who showed how well he knew
the waves, and lifted the tournament cup and held the
title of this first edition.
Nine years later, the festival has become the largest
and most high-spirited surf festival in the state of
Ceará, the JERICOACOARA CULTURA LONGBOARD
FESTIVAL. It is one of the most anticipated events in the
state nowadays. Accredited by the Surfing Federation
of Ceará, the event meets all legal demands for its
production.
With the growth of the Festival and its new demands,
the inclusion of the Stand Up Wave category has
made the event even larger, as they are related sports
and bring together people with similar feelings and
emotions towards the sea and waves.
The 2016 edition recaptured the history and memory of
the first edition and brought together great legendary
names of the sport and a new generation connected
to the true Auêra-Auára spirit! All committed to the
experience of being reunited in a natural paradise to
celebrate friendship and respect for nature.
Every year the festival adds up new activities, such as
surf yoga, capoeira presentation, art and photography
exhibition, local surf school tournament, slackline,
sandboard, bodysurf, reggae shows and surf music,
as well as the traditional water ritual AUÊRA AUÁRA
JERICOACOARA, where participants share their respect
and commitment to protect the environment.
The festival always takes place between February and
May, when the wind is already lighter, the waves are
perfect, and low season is coming. A major boost for
the local economy.
