TATAJUBA
About 25km away from Jericoacoara, you get to
Old Tatajuba*, located amidst rolling mobile dunes.
In the 1970s, the town was buried, and today it is
known as Old Tatajuba. Nearby, you can visit “New
Tatajuba”, rebuilt on the other side of Tucunduba River.
*Tatajuba is a word of Tupi origin, “tatayua”, which
means tree of fire. For a long time, its wood was used
to make the vessels for the local fishermen.
THE FUNNEL DUNE
A little further ahead, you can visit the Duna do Funil,
where the landscape on its own is enough to say the
place is stunning!
Among the many dunes, a very high one stands out,
and from the top of it you can see a huge hole with a
lagoon (in the raining season), amidst sand walls that
ended up forming a real funnel.
Natives enjoy the place with wooden boards
(skibunda), and slide from the top to the foot of
the dune in a radical descent. It is a very exciting
adventure. The climbing of the dune requires a lot of
effort, but there is a rope to help the tourists. If you
prefer you can use one of the quad bikes available.
LAGOA DA TORTA
The Lagoa da Torta would be the final stop of this
tour. It is a picturesque place where you can find kiosks
serving seafood, fish, fresh shrimp, right on the edge of
the lagoon. Drinks and food are served while you are
enjoying the lagoon, thus giving a special and rustic
charm to the place.
This lagoon became famous for showing Ceará with
the images of the colored hammocks in the water.
If you leave early, the whole tour can finish around
4:00 p.m., with enough time to go back (1:00 hour
non-stop) and still enjoy the sunset in Jeri.
