JERICOACOARA CHORO JAZZ FESTIVAL
Nine years of music in paradise
In 2009, in the idyllic scenery of one of the most
beautiful beaches in the world, from the idea and
perseverance of a young idealist nicknamed Capucho,
the Jericoacoara Choro Jazz Festival was born.
With the purpose of bringing quality music to every
corner of this charming seaside village, the festival
takes place from the last weekend of November
through the first week of December. It is designed
to celebrate instrumental music and bring together
choro and jazz, two musical genres that inspire
improvisation and the integration of people, notes
and tones.
In all these years of unforgettable musical
performances and jam sessions, Jericoacoara has
witnessed a wide range of genres like choro,
Brazilian and international jazz, as well as
Brazilian popular music.
Hermeto Pascoal, a musical reference
and brilliant multi-instrumentalist, the
saxophonist Leo Gandelman, the accordion
player Waldonys, the multi-instrumentalist
Egberto Gismonti, the mandolin player
Hamilton de Holanda, besides the composers
João Bosco, Ivan Lins, and Celso Viáfora,
are some of the Brazilians who have taken
the stage. Bob Mintzer and Russel Ferrante,
among others, were some of the foreign
attractions to perform in one of the nine
editions of the Jericoacoara Choro Jazz
Festival.
Besides music, the festival also holds art and
craft workshops free of charge for young
people from the community.
The Choro Jazz Festival is a member of
EFWMF – European Forum Worldwide Music
Festivals, and that turns it into some of the
most important events of its type in the
international calendar.

it belongs to everyone. I may be the creator,
the producer, but the festival belongs to the
