Mapping the State of<br />
Santa Catarina<br />
U<br />
m estudo do CAV (Centro de Ciências Agroveterinárias),<br />
da UDESC (Universidade do Estado de Santa<br />
Catarina) em Lages, contratado pela ACR (Associação<br />
Catarinense de Empresas Florestais), identificou, através<br />
de sensoriamento remoto, as áreas com florestas plantadas no<br />
Estado. O levantamento, concluído em fevereiro de 2020, começou<br />
em novembro de 2018 e mapeou a silvicultura catarinense de forma<br />
inédita. A conclusão foi que a área total com florestas plantadas<br />
no Estado é de 828,9 mil ha (hectares). Desta totalidade, 553,6 mil<br />
ha (67%) são áreas com pinus; e 275,3 mil ha (cerca de 33%) estão<br />
ocupados com Eucalyptus. Em entrevista à REFERÊNCIA FLORESTAL,<br />
o professor responsável pelo estudo, Marcos Benedito Schimalski,<br />
explica como foi feito o levantamento e qual é a sua importância para<br />
a silvicultura catarinense. Confira:<br />

study by the Agro-veterinary Science Center (CAV)<br />
of the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc)<br />
in Lages, contracted by the State of Santa Catarina<br />
Association of Forestry Companies (ACR), identified,<br />
through remote sensing, the planted forests areas within<br />
the State. The Study, unprecedented in the State, which began in<br />
November 2018 and was completed in February 2020, mapped forest<br />
operations throughout Santa Catarina. The conclusion was that the<br />
total area with planted forests in the State totaled 828.9 thousand<br />
hectares. Of this total, 553.6 thousand hectares (67%) are planted<br />
with pine, and 275.3 thousand hectares (about 33%) are planted<br />
with eucalyptus. In an interview with REFERÊNCIA <strong>Florestal</strong>, Marcos<br />
Benedito Schimalski, the professor responsible for the Study, explains<br />
how it was carried out and is its importance for forestry in the State.<br />
