N u d l a r , s t u d i e r & s t å l a r The Rhyme of a Thursday AV: ANNIE PETTERSON There are thousands of students in Uppsala tonight, Each Thursday they go out and the night does ignite, they have spent their days crammed in their books, Then step out on the town with their heels and good looks. Around the world there is no other place, That can make a Thursday just this Ace! As the week comes to a close and we hand in our work, Just breathe, let go and hide all that casework. For it is Finally time for the best night of all, It’s the Thursdays that get us through the long fall! My brother was a student here years before me, I have a habit of copying him you see. We always agree on most things we do, However, we differ in one or say two. I love a good party and to stay out all night, Laughing with friends until the sky gets light. He’s more of a whiskey and a good book man, But between you and me I’ve seen him on tables in Cannes. However, there is one point we have found on which to agree, When it comes to the subject of clubbing or tea, In London and Stockholm, we are born and raised, Two cities in which the nightlife is praised. But one thing is true and that’s nothing compares, To a night out at Stocken and this even my brother declares! I find the autumn hard, and many agree, I only wrap myself up and drink lots of tea. Which is healthy and wholesome and downright cosy, But it’s also so vital to keep those cheeks rosy! It’s important to remember to brace the cold, And venture outside in the icy dark months, As we won’t have the energy when we start to get old. Whether it’s dinner with friends or an afternoon coffee, Don’t forget to have fun and eat lots of toffee! Because in these dark days it’s easy to hide, And huddle up away from the world outside. Lemons, coffee and vitamin D, Is what manages to get me out of bed to see, The sparkling blanket of snow that is covering the park, Making my Monday much less dark. Working out can also bring a few smiles, 26

I have a friend, he has this idea, to always have a trip planned to some place sunny, I followed his lead and you know what he was right! It made my weekdays so much more funny. Clicking through photos of a beach in the Maldives, Dreaming of lying there under the palm trees, Sipping piña coladas decorated in leaves. You see there are many things one can do, To make you forget this season of flu. Look forward to Christmas and bake lots of cakes, And don’t forget to sing and skate on frozen lakes! Sit at the window snuggled in a blanket, Watching the snow fall in a fluffy pyjama set. If you get bored or lonely remember, To pick up the phone and all through November, Make plans and have fun despite the bad weather. Christmas is coming, the best time of the year! So be merry and go spread that festive Christmas cheer! By the time that is over we can finally say, The spring term has begun oh yes yes horray! Just an idea but it really doesn’t hurt, to remember a Thursday is never a miss, If you need to get out and dance off that stress, it’s a night out you should not dismiss. The days I have spent curled up at home, panicked over exams and shortage of time, When my friends have come over to sip on mulled wine, We always end up queuing outside Stockholm’s nation, A little bit tipsy but above all happy, pretending we are out on vacation. As we make our way in with our too heavy coats, We laugh and sing, straining our throats. Bumping into those classmates we don’t really know, But the mood encouraging to let all love show! With kisses and hugs, left right and centre, Onto the big dancefloor we will enter. Dance all night long and I am sure you will find, Those blue fingers and shivers you’ve left far behind! The best thing about Thursdays I just have to say, Is something that is great in so many a way. The feeling the weekend has not yet begun, you don’t waste your weekend in bed after just one night of fun! The smiles, the laughs, and the festive cheer, That you enjoy over a nice cold beer, Makes your week better and breaks up the calm, As you count down the days to seeing a coconut palm. My point here is this; that in this cold time, It is easy to sulk and move up your bed-time. But just don’t forget that life doesn’t just stop, Just because it’s dark and one gets in a strop. Keep yourself busy and whatever you do, Remember every Thursday we are waiting for you. 27
