The Power of the Silver Screen The 19th Jeonju International Film Festival opens in South Korea and the world’s eyes turn toward arts, culture, politics, and entertainment. This is true on so many levels, yet films also have another deeper, more significant role: to ignite discourse. Films invite people to think about what is and what should be. This is one of the main goals of this year’s Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), with its slogan, “Outlet for Cinematic Expression,” making the city a platform for films from all over the world. 25
