In mid-October 2017 a Google student
space was opened for students.
It was financed with the prize money
the university was awarded for winning
the top position in the University
Ranking of Google Internet Revolutions
in 2016, when UE Katowice had
the highest percentage of students
receiving the digital skills certificate
from Google and IAB Europe.
Internet Revolutions
Internet Revolutions is a training scheme
in online marketing. It is aimed at students
who would like to apply the knowledge of
e-commerce, mobile advertising and social
media in their future careers or business activities.
The program includes a series of free,
full-day presentations and training sessions
organized at Polish universities, upon whose
completion participants are offered an opportunity
to pursue certification.
Ranking and certification by
Google and IAB Europe
The Internet Revolutions Ranking is a list
showing higher education institutions which
best help students develop their digital
competence. It was carried out from April
17 to September 25, 2016. The University of
Economics in Katowice ranked top among
Polish higher education institutions in terms
of the number of certificates obtained by the
students taking part in the program.
The project was completed in the
summer break prior to the academic
year 2017/2018. Let us remind
the readers that the 25,000-Polishzloty
prize for setting up a student
space was symbolically handed over
by Google representatives to the
rector, Prof. Robert Tomanek, at the
5 th European Congress of Small and
Medium-Sized Enterprises. A representative
of the Internet giant was
also present at the opening ceremony
of the student space, which
was attended by a great number of
UE Katowice students and members
of staff.
– ”We are proud of this award, and
the fact that it was won by our students
makes it even more valuable”
– said Prof. Tomanek, opening
the student space. Now, students
can unwind on couches outfitted
with electrical outlets and USB ports
for charging mobile devices. The
rector also pointed out that it is not
the first space of this kind at the
university. – “We already have similar
relaxation spaces in buildings A,
B and F. We would like the university
to be as student-friendly as possible”.
We have to add that recent-
ly, yet another student space – in
building N was established. It was
financed from the Erasmus+ program
funds.
