Study in
Katowice
In October 2017, staff members
and students of our
Alma Mater visited five cities
in Poland with the aim of
promoting Katowice as an
exceptional academic center
and the best place to study.
A mobile “Academic Town”
attracted avid interest and
definitely accomplished its
mission of selling the “Study
in Katowice” idea.
“Study in Katowice” is a joint initiative
undertaken by the Katowice City Hall
and higher education institutions based
in Katowice, i.e. Academy of Fine Arts,
Academy of Physical Education, Silesian
University of Technology, Medical University
of Silesia, University of Silesia and
University of Economics. The idea behind
the mobile “Academic Town” was to create
a joint information point of the best
public higher education institutions in
Katowice in the centers of the cities on
our route so as to woo into this shared
space the greatest possible number of
secondary-school students, particularly
those in their final year, willing to embark
on a university-education adventure in
the capital city of Upper Silesia. The tour
included 5 cities: Bielsko Biała, Tarnów,
Radomsko, Strzelce Opolskie, Brzeg.
Visitors to our tent asked a wide range of
questions – they were interested in the
first-cycle, second-cycle and postgraduate
programs, as well as our offering for children
and people aged 50+. Since we provide
lifelong learning opportunities, our
educational programs appealed to both
young and elderly inhabitants of the cities
we visited.
Our “wheel of fortune” proved the most
popular attraction – anybody could spin
the wheel, pick a question relating to economics,
UE Katowice or Katowice City,
and upon giving the correct answer – win
a gift featuring the university logo. The
university staff and students from Student
Parliament and Paneuropa, student
organizations, who played host to
the event, not only tested the knowledge
of prospective applicants, but also presented
the university’s study programs.
The offering is extremely attractive as
UE Katowice boasts the highest graduate
employability rate among the tertiary
education institutions in Silesia.
We visited the cities both in person and
virtually – the event was promoted in the
university’s social media. Instagram and
Snapchat stories provided continuous
updates and thus encouraged candidates
to meet us up. We also used Instagram’s
latest feature to live-stream the event.
As a result, future recruits were able to
accompany us on our tour without leaving
home!
