Interview
rights and its racist and anti-all
humanitarian laws. It is well-established
that terrorism, occupation
and corruption limit, and in some
cases prevent, the realization of
any kind of development. Hence,
these matters must be addressed
in order to spare the Arab region
from living in conflicts whose
consequences are adverse to
development.
Back to the conference; what are
its objectives and expected
outcomes?
The seventeenth conference of
the Arab Network for National
Human Rights Institutions will
discuss a package of themes related
to international solidarity and
its relationship to the implementation
of the sustainable development
goals, the centrality of Goal
16, the measures related to the
promotion of human rights and
the role of national institutions.
We also hope that the conference
will develop recommendations
and a plan of action and follow up
on its implementation; and to
achieve that, we hope that this
conference will result in the formation
of a working group consisting
of the Arab Network, the High
commissioner, the United Nations
Development Program, the
ESCWA, and the interested stakeholders,
to implement the action
plan in addition to carrying out
other relevant roles which are
considered a compass that guides
institutions in cooperation and
strengthening their role and carrying
out their responsibilities in
order to follow up and implement
the 2030 SDGs.
We also look through the conference
to achieve results that
enhance the role of national
institutions and empower them
and open horizons for cooperation
in implementing and following
up the implementation of the
2030 SDGs - nationally and internationally.
This is in addition to
encouraging international cooperation
and solidarity to implement
the sustainable development
plan, and emphasizing the
outputs and recommendations of
the International Arab Network
Conference held in Egypt - Sharm
El-Sheikh on 26-27 June 2019 on
"The role of national human rights
institutions in following up the
implementation of the sustainable
development goals." Such recommendations
will be the outset.
The Global Alliance organizes
stands of solidarity
with institutions facing
threats and acts of reprisal
Such is added to exchanging and
sharing best practices on international
solidarity, governance,
human rights approaches, the role
of national institutions and civil
society organizations and expanding
their cooperation. Further, the
government sector will be encouraged
to be a partner in the struggle
to achieve rights and integration
with other stakeholders. We
also hope to come up with recommendations
and develop a vision
and action plan to overcome
challenges, meet needs, raise and
build capacities, and cooperate
with stakeholders in their implementation.
A working group will
be established from the Arab
Network, the High Commissioner,
the United Nations Development
Program and Statistics, ESCWA
and civil society organizations to
follow up the work plan and the
recommendations of the conference.
