The National Council for Human Rights in Algeria issues its
annual report for 2019
The National Council for Human
Rights in Algeria issued its special
annual report for 2019, describing
it as coming under unusual circumstances
in Algeria. The Council
said the year 2019 was one of the
decisive moments in the modern
history of Algeria, which will have
a very important impact on the
near, medium and even distant
future of Algeria. It also affirmed
the obligation of the constitutional
and political systems to listen to
the chants of the masses and the
legitimate demands and aspirations
they carried, reminding
these systems of their duty to
embody such demands in reality.
The National Council considered
the process of implementing,
realizing and embodying human
rights on the ground, and moving
away from hollow and occasional
mantras about them, as one of the
most important popular demands
during the movement. The council
said in the introduction to its
report: "The people's rule will not
have any repercussion or meaning
if it is absent from freedom of
expression and press; freedom to
form parties, unions and civil
society associations; protection
of human rights defenders and
moving away from any attempt to
hinder their work; in addition to
having the true independence of
the judiciary without any interference
from the legislative and executive
authorities.
The report pointed out that the
demands of the people's movement
were the starting point for
the work adopted by the National
Council during the drafting of the
annual report for the year 2019,
and at the same time they were
the most important proposals
that were always included in previous
reports.
