the role of national human rights
institutions in light of the Covid-19
pandemic.
The Executive Committee praised
the role and efforts of the
Network’s General administration
during this pandemic, and unanimously
approved the date of the
next “17th” general assembly to
be held on 1st June 2021, in Doha,
Capital of the State of Qatar,
where Chairmanship of the
ANNHRI will be transferred from
Mr. Issam Yunus, Chairman of the
Palestinian Independent Commission
for Human Rights, to HE Dr.
Ali bin Smaikh Al-Marri, Chairman
of the NHRC in Qatar.
The Executive Committee also
adopted the theme of the International
Conference of the ANNHRI
which will be (International
solidarity and the sustainable
development agenda for the year
2030,” The pivotal of SDG 16:
Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”),
the conference will be
organized in Doha in parallel with
the General Assembly meeting.
Furthermore, the Executive Committee
stated that the Arab
Network is ready to provide, in
coordination and cooperation
with the High Commissioner for
Human Rights and the GANHRI,
all assistance necessary or
required to the brotherly Republic
of Sudan for establishing a
national human rights institution
in accordance with the Paris Principles
of 1993.
Furthermore, the Executive Committee
encouraged continuing
cooperation with the ACHR Committee
and Human Rights Department
in the Arab League. This is in
order to contribute to raising and
building capacities and developing
the Arab human rights system
as well as promoting and protecting
human rights in the Arab
world. Moreover, the meeting
addressed the new challenges to
the Palestinian cause, including
attempts to annex the West Bank,
Judaize Jerusalem and demolish
homes, which multiplied following
the wave of normalization, and
thus resulting in new challenges
and violations of the rights of the
Arab people in Palestine.
The meeting further stressed that
if there is no place for the Palestinian
cause, then there is no need
for human rights institutions. The
meeting stated that Palestine is
witnessing an unprecedented
situation, and that the Arab
Network must consequently
support Palestine’s position inter-

nationally through activation of
international humanitarian law
and international human rights
mechanisms.
Also, the Executive Committee
unanimously affirmed the previous
Network’s decisions and positions
in support and adoption of
the Palestinian question as well as
its support for the Palestinian
Independent Commission for
Human Rights and for the Palestinian
people in facing problems
and challenges caused by normalization.
This can be achieved
through the legal and humanitarian
dimension. Finally, the Executive
Committee stated that it is
necessary to work to have a clear
position regarding obligations of
the State or the third party in
accordance with the international
law. This is in addition to the
necessity not to recognize the
Israeli occupation and its procedures
and the need to take steps
to force Israel to end the occupation
in accordance with international
law.
