NIHR in Bahrain Organizes a Workshop on Green Information
and Communication Technology in Cooperation with the
Supreme Council for Environment
The National Institution for
Human Rights (NIHR), in cooperation
with The Supreme Council for
Environment (SCE), organized a
workshop entitled “Green Information
and Communication Technology”
(ICT), which was attended
by a number of public and private
sector employees, members of
civil society organizations and
public and private universities.
The workshop was conducted
through visual communication
technology, in line with the precautionary
measures taken by the
Kingdom of Bahrain to combat
the spread of the Coronavirus
(Covid-19), by avoiding mixing,
gatherings and meetings and
ensuring social distancing.
The concept of green communications
and its role in
achieving sustainable development
Ms. Manal Al-Eid, Chief of Information
& Communications Technology
Department at the Supreme
Council for Environment, presented
a worksheet on green information
and communication technology
and the efforts of the Supreme
Council for Environment in this
field, which defined the concept
of green communication and its
role in achieving sustainable development.
She also reviewed the
most important initiatives of the
Supreme Council for Environment
and the achievements of the Kingdom
of Bahrain in this field. In
addition, Dr. Abdelmenam
Mohamed Hassan, Regional Coordinator
for Science, UN Environment
Program (UNEP) for West
Asia Office, presented a worksheet
entitled: "The Legal Basis
and International Mechanisms for
the Protection of Environment," in
which he defined the legal basis
and international mechanisms for
the protection of environment in
the area of green information and
communication technology, and
reviewed international environmental
conventions and agreements.
This event falls within the NIHR
strategy and action plan, especially
the first Strategic Goal on Environmental
Impact on Human Rights,
to strengthen community partnership
in the area of green information
and communication technology
and introduce the most important
international laws and instruments
concerned with the protection
of the environment in the
area of green information and
communication technology (ICT).
