The slaughtered animal shall be dissected (opened and examined) by a Veterinary<br />

Surgeon who shall <strong>for</strong>ward through the High Sheriff to the Government Department<br />

concerned a precise, written report of the nature of the disease and sympt<strong>om</strong>s,<br />

and condition of the dissected animal.<br />

§ 6.<br />

Subject to the below mentioned restrictions, the owner is entitled to c<strong>om</strong>pensation<br />

<strong>for</strong> those animals which by virtue of § 5 shall be slaughtered by order<br />

of the Public Authorities. For animals which, on dissection, do not exhibit<br />

traces of the diseases mentioned in § 5, c<strong>om</strong>pensation will be made to the full<br />

amount awarded in the manner hereto<strong>for</strong>e prescribed. The c<strong>om</strong>pensation to be<br />

awarded to animals which, on dissection, have been found to be attacked by<br />

cattle plague or pleuro-pneumonia, is fixed at 2/3rds, and <strong>for</strong> horses, which, on<br />

dissection were found to be suffering fr<strong>om</strong> glanders (as mentioned in § 2), to<br />

V2 the amount of the valuation made in the manner hereto<strong>for</strong>e prescribed.<br />

Provided the owner has, by the importation of infected animals fr<strong>om</strong> abroad, or<br />

by non observance of the regulations <strong>for</strong> the prevention of disease, brought the<br />

injury on himself', he shall not be awarded any c<strong>om</strong>pensation <strong>for</strong> the slaughtered<br />

animals. The right to c<strong>om</strong>pensation <strong>for</strong> horses suffering fr<strong>om</strong> glanders is,<br />

furthermore, contingent upon proof being shown that they have lived <strong>for</strong> at least<br />

6 months within the frontiers of the land.<br />

-§ 7 .<br />

Animals found to be suffering fr<strong>om</strong> hydrophobia (Rabies) must be killed.<br />

Dogs or eats which have been bitten by any animal suffering fr<strong>om</strong> hydrophobia<br />

shall also be destroyed. Every other animal must, in similar instances as<br />

determined by § 4 <strong>for</strong> all animals suspected of being attacked by the disease,<br />

be kept securely isolated and confined. The confinement of bitten animals<br />

shall be <strong>for</strong> a period of at least 6 months The High Sheriff may, by public<br />

notice in each town or district where, or in the neighbourhood of which,<br />

hydrophobia appears, order, within a district to be more closely defined by<br />

him, every dog to be either effectively tied up or confined, or furnished with<br />

a muzzle of the description prescribed in the Public Notice. Should the<br />

disease spread to such an extent as to assume an alarming character the<br />

High Sheriff must issue such an order, with an additional decree that no dog<br />

even when provided with a muzzle as prescribed, may be allowed to appear<br />

out, unless held in leash by an adult person. Dogs met with at large, in<br />

defiance of the order, shall be seized by order of the Police and, according to<br />

the regulation in the Public Notice, be destroyed, either at once, or after a<br />

term of grace of 3 days, provided they are not redeemed . by the owner on<br />

payment of the cost of their keep and detention. The costs of the seizure,<br />

keep, and destruction of dogs shall be paid by the county, borough or town<br />

concerned, provided these have each their own local boards. No c<strong>om</strong>pensation<br />

is granted fo,v animals killed in accordance with the provisions of this §.<br />
