❖ In Gallup’s survey outside areas with structured activities 66<br />

per cent of the respondents would accept a (hypothetical) free<br />

vaccination offer from their family doctor and 57 per cent would<br />

accept a free offer from a vaccination clinic.<br />

The socio-economic costs depend on the amount of the vaccination<br />

fee which, if required, must be agreed upon by the contracting<br />

parties. If the current rate for vaccination of children<br />

against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) (DKK 94.63 (August<br />

1999)) is employed, the socio-economic costs would be on<br />

a level with regime A (non-structured activities), but with an<br />

estimated vaccination rate of approximately 70 per cent.<br />

In order to ensure that immobile citizens are vaccinated the<br />

general practitioners will have to organise this effort specifically<br />

to include that group. Additional costs thus incurred have<br />

not been included in the calculations.<br />

The strength of this regime may be that the citizens feel secure<br />

when they are vaccinated by their family doctor. The contact<br />

thus obtained may also give rise to other relevant health examinations.<br />

As is the case with regime B, regime D could be expanded so<br />

that the offer included not only the group of persons over the<br />

age of 65, but also the other risk groups indicated in the recommendations<br />

made by the National Board of Health, based on a<br />

medical assessment of each individual patient.<br />

Private vaccination clinics<br />

❖ In the autumn of 1999 private vaccination clinics to an increasing<br />

degree have offered influenza vaccination administered by<br />

physicians and at lower prices than have previously applied in<br />

this field.<br />

As agreed with local or central authorities or voluntary senior<br />

citizen associations, group vaccinations are organised and advertised<br />

in local dailies.<br />

❖ In the autumn of 1999 the level of prices is DKK 120 to 150<br />
