Abstract II
Abstract
In the last years the satellite navigation replaced more and more conventional detection
systems. The reasons for this change are the following three main factors:
• Orbital navigation makes a three-dimensional position detection possible. From this
data you can derive speed and direction of moving objects.
• This now appointed satellite net permits the world-wide use of the same system.
• Receiver modules for satellite navigation systems became always smaller and smaller
which increased the operational area in the civilian as well as in the military range.
This report describes the operational principle of this trend-setting navigation technology
which is based on the leading GPS (Global Positioning system) of the USA. The second
part of the report deals with the operational area and the future development of satellite
navigation systems. This report is the result of project within various disciplines. The main
goal on one hand was to supplement a part of the material of the course in technology
and on the other hand to apply the knowledge acquired in the German tutorial.
A reference book served for the description of the functionality of GPS as main source. In
addition relevant publications from the internet and technical periodicals served to work
out the remaining topics.
