Seit den 1980er Jahren hatte die AUDI AG in<br />
Zusammenarbeit mit der Aluminium Company<br />
of America (ALCOA) an der Entwicklung<br />
eines Serienautomobils in Aluminium-Leicht-<br />
bauweise gearbeitet. Das Ergebnis langjähriger<br />
Forschungsarbeit wurde im Herbst<br />
1993 auf der IAA in Frankfurt präsentiert:<br />
