Karneval im blut, hier und am zucKerhut
HE UN AM ZUCKERHOT
Wer an Karneval denkt, denkt an Köln
… oder an Rio de Janeiro. Was
läge da näher, als in Sachen
Frohsinn gemeinsame Sache
zu machen? Die Rheinmetropole und die brasilianische
Megacity liegen zwar fast 10.000
Kilometer voneinander entfernt, doch es eint sie „eine
ähnliche Stimmung“, wie der Botschafter Brasiliens,
Everton Vieira Vargas, bei der Besiegelung der Städtepartnerschaft
im Herbst vergangenen Jahres bemerkte.
Was sie trennt, ist das Wetter. Während man drüben
in Südamerika im knappen Bikini Samba tanzt, freut man
sich hüben über ein kuschelig warmes Ganzkörper-Bärenkostüm.
Betrachtet man den Kneipenkarneval, wendet sich
das Blatt – viel schweißtreibender kann es im tropischen
Brasilien auch nicht zugehen. Jedenfalls lautet das Motto
der kommenden Session entsprechend: „Fastelovend em
Blot, he un am Zuckerhot“ (Karneval im Blut, hier und am
Zuckerhut). In diesem Sinne: „Kölle un Rio Alaaf“.
Carnival tends to conjure up ideas
of Cologne – or even Rio de Janeiro.
So what could be more obvious than
for the two to join forces? Even if the
Rhine met is some 10,000 kilometres away from the
Brazilian mega city, the two are united by a “similar
atmosphere”, as Brazil’s ambassador, Everton Vieira
Vargas, commented during the twinning ceremony
of the two cities last autumn. What separates them
is the weather: whereas in South America, temperatures
invite revellers to dance the Samba clad in a
scanty bikini, carnival-goers on the other side of the globe
don a cosy full-body bear costume. An exploration of the
pub scene during carnival, however, is proof that the heat
is on here too, and not just in tropical Brazil. In any event,
the motto of the upcoming season has been coined accordingly:
“Fastelovend em Blot, he un am Zuckerhot” (carnival
in your blood, here and at the Sugar Loaf Mountain).
As they say in Cologne: Kölle un Rio Alaaf.
