Mauer-Orgel, Händel-Haus<br />
Born <strong>in</strong> Palermo <strong>in</strong> 1660, Alessandro Scarlatti is one of the most <strong>in</strong>fluential Italian<br />
composers of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. In Rome<br />
he enjoyed the protection of such <strong>in</strong>fluential people as Card<strong>in</strong>al Benedetto Pamphili,<br />
Pietro Ottoboni and the Marchese Francesco Maria Ruspoli, who were also<br />
Handel‘s patrons. Scarlatti was not only <strong>in</strong>fluential as a composer of opera; his<br />
sacred works for the Roman Catholic church also made him a reference for the<br />
next generation of composers – <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Handel. Scarlatti’s Il Martirio di Santa<br />
Teodosia was composed <strong>in</strong> 1685. Orig<strong>in</strong>al ideas and emotionally charged <strong>in</strong>terpretations<br />
based on historical models and comb<strong>in</strong>ed with a powerful, passionate<br />
style make Al Ayre Español one of the lead<strong>in</strong>g Baroque ensembles. The ensemble<br />
performs regularly at the world’s most famous festivals and <strong>in</strong> the<br />
best-known concert halls, such as the Musikvere<strong>in</strong> and Konzerthaus <strong>in</strong> Vienna,<br />
the Opéra Comique <strong>in</strong> Paris, or the London Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music.<br />
Their record<strong>in</strong>gs to date have earned them praise from numerous critics and<br />
garnered <strong>in</strong>ternational awards, such as Le Choc de l’Année, the Diapason d‘Or<br />
and the Gramophone Editor‘s Choice.<br />
