Because the key to successful knowledge translation is the early and ongoinginvolvement of information users in the planning and creation of information products,C-SPAN’s partnership with CPAC and other interested stakeholders provides a uniqueopportunity for researchers and stakeholders to work together to ensure that the mostrelevant information products are ultimately created by C-SPAN. The first opportunityto consult with stakeholders on an in-depth level occurred at the Cancer SurveillanceStakeholder Forum in Toronto in February. Information gathered throughresearcher/information user collaboration will be used not only to guide how C-SPANdesigns information products but to inform future efforts to create and disseminaterelevant surveillance information.The C-SPAN membership is arranged in several teams: (a) a project team; (b) amethods working group, composed of analysts and epidemiologists representingparticipating provinces; (c) a Canadian advisory committee, to be shared with theColorectal Cancer Network (CRCNet) and the Cancer Projections Network (C-Projections); and (d) an international scientific advisory committee and to be sharedwith CPAC and the other analytic networks.a) The Manitoba-based Project Team, in collaboration with the methods workinggroup, will coordinate of the work related to C-SPAN. Much of the initialprogramming will occur in Manitoba, on Manitoba data, expanding to includeother jurisdictions shortly after this “testing” phase.b) Direction for information product development and advice on relevance ofanalysis will be provided by the Canadian Advisory Committee, which iscomprised of surveillance experts, policy-makers and survivorship experts.Specific methodological advice will come from a group of senior Canadiananalysts who have demonstrated expertise in survival and/or prevalencecalculations.c) Additional general and methodological advice will be provided by a team ofnoted international experts in cancer surveillance.By the end of the project, C-SPAN will have created a suite of surveillance products informs that are usable by our target audiences, and will have created sustainableanalytic capacity with regards to the production of survival and prevalence statisticsacross Canada.
