so Winterkorn.
Beide Messen
finden parallel zur AMI vom 2. bis 6. Juni 2012 statt.
der einzigen internationalen Automobilmesse
News in brief
Flagships of the international automotive industry in Saxony
10 years of Transparent Factory
Around 250 guests from the worlds of commerce, politics and culture attended a celebration on
10 December marking the tenth anniversary of the Transparent Factory, VW's modern plant in the
center of Dresden. The Phaeton was a special centerpoint of the anniversary celebrations: the
Volkswagen model is manufactured exclusively in the state capital of Saxony. Prof. Dr. Martin
Winterkorn, Chairman of Volkswagen AG, praised the successful combination of tradition and
progress, of state-of-the-art production technology and manual craftsmanship, which was a strong
feature of the Dresden plant. "This is a special relationship which forms the basis of the Phaeton's
success. This year for the first time there will be over 10,000 vehicles produced," says Winterkorn.
"Just like the Transparent Factory itself, the Phaeton is a superb advertisement for Volkswagen
and for automobile manufacture in Germany, and will continue to be so." Stanislaw
Tillich, Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony, acknowledged the importance of the Volkswagen
plant to Dresden: "The Transparent Factory has no comparison anywhere in the world. For
ten years people have been fascinated by its transparency and its unusual setting: Dresden is the
only place where you can watch cars being made right in the city center. This allows Volkswagen
to make an excellent impression to its customers, and also to the people of Dresden and visitors
to the city: This is where quality and luxury combine naturally with tradition and ingenuity."
A unique trade fair grouping
Six months before the AMI Auto Mobil International 2012 is due to open its doors, Germany's only
biennial motor show in even-numbered years looks set to be a great success. All the German manufacturers
and a large majority of international brands will be exhibiting at the show in Leipzig.
Lexus, Nissan, Seat, Suzuki and Volvo are going to be there again, and negotiations are progress -
ing well with other producers. Some companies, including BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Opel and
Subaru, have already booked bigger exhibition areas than before. The change to the two-year cycle
and the new dates of 2 to 10 June 2012 have clearly been well received in the industry. The momentum
of the AMI is also having a positive effect on the AMITEC exhibition, a specialist trade fair for
vehicle components, workshop and service equipment, and on AMICOM, the show for mobile entertainment,
communication and navigation technology. Both shows are being held in tandem with
the AMI, from 2 to 6 June 2012. "The way the AMI is now being organized means we have an
unrivaled position as Germany's top international car show in years with even numbers," claims
Martin Buhl-Wagner, management spokesman for Leipziger Messe. "The current number of registrations
is up by 20 per cent, which proves that we have managed to find the best possible slot
for the Auto Mobil International in the international trade show calendar."
