Literature in the EFL-Classroom (Wiederholung)
5310C00738 AHS
This seminar aims at the development of didactic strategies to integrate literature into the
classroom. For teaching purposes short stories and poems offer an easy-to-handle access to
cultural experience, language training and awareness of topics. The short stories and poems
that will serve as the textual basis for this seminar come from the multicultural environment of
the United States and include stories and poems by contemporary African American,
Chicano/a, Asian American and Native American writers. In addition a short reading list of
fiction for young adult readers will be introduced. The stories and poems have been selected to
either represent the U.S. from a multicultural perspective and/or because they especially
appeal to a young reading audience.
One part of the seminar will be devoted to teaching strategies: written and oral assignments,
pre- and post-reading exercises, presentation skills, recitals, visual impulses, audio resources,
etc.
