A Learning Styles Approach to Vocabulary Learning<br />

Learners often feel overwhelmed by the amount of new vocabulary they are expected to<br />
absorb. In order to acquire new words they need to learn and practice skills which recycle,<br />
imprint and move vocabulary words from passive to active use.<br />
In this workshop we will look <strong>at</strong> different learning styles and the effect personal preferences<br />
have on learning and retaining vocabulary.<br />
Participants should discover the effect learning styles have on learning and retention of<br />
vocabulary. In addition they will find out about specific methods to enable learners to use their<br />
strengths to optimize their results.<br />
Contents:<br />
- Fundamentals of learning styles<br />
- Activities to recycle vocabulary<br />
- Discussion of methods and applic<strong>at</strong>ion for the classroom<br />
- Importance of extrinsic and intrinsic motiv<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
