However, merely being a place where
Telemann was born or worked has no
merit of its own. The essential question
is how we, as generations born much
later, treat this treasure we’ve found
placed in our laps, so to speak.
Therefore, I am delighted that
the cities of Clausthal-Zellerfeld,
Hildesheim, Leipzig, Żary and Pszczyna
(Poland), Eisenach, Frankfurt am Main
and Hamburg, as well as organizers in
Paris, have followed our invitation to
initiate a network of Telemann Cities in
preparation for the Telemann Year. In
some of these places, the Telemann festivities
will be combined with the 2017
anniversary of the Reformation – a most
welcome synergy. These exchanges have
brought us all together. Exchange, in
this case, means planning such a special
