wir lernen und uns an seinem Humor
sowie seiner (scheinbar mühelosen)
Leichtigkeit heute noch ein Beispiel
nehmen.
RG: Telemann in history books: what
does Telemann tell you about his
times – and what are the consequences
for the present?
DO: Telemann continuously overcame
the boundaries of his own art, taking
an interest in the unknown and
foreign, integrating it into his work and
maintaining his curiosity throughout
his lifetime. Like his contemporaries in
various fields, he wanted to acquaint
himself with »the world«, looking
beyond his horizon. Telemann held
many musicians of other nations in high
regard and was able to delight them
and his compatriots with his capability
of adapting to their styles. This made
him so famous and esteemed all over
Europe during his lifetime. There is
much for us to learn from his openminded
embrace of the world, but
also from his unfailing enthusiasm for
music, his overwhelming fervour and his
»constant and cheerful diligence«; his
humour and his (apparently effortless)
ease are examples for us today.
