Neue Ideen und Stile lassen sich hervorragend im Kurzfilm auspro-
bieren. Gesagt, getan. Als Vorfilm von TOY STORY 3 präsentierte Pixar
mit DAY & NIGHT von Teddy Newton eine völlig neue Gestaltungsform.
Innerhalb der beiden handgezeichneten Silhouetten der Figuren
Tag und Nacht spielen sich Szenen aus unserer Welt ab. Diese
sind computergeneriert und verfügen über eine Tiefendimension.
In DAY & NIGHT werden Zeichentrick und CGI kombiniert, genauso
wie tiefe Bilder mit flachen, welche die stereoskopischen 3D-Inhalte
maskieren. Ein verblüffender Effekt, der Teil der Geschichte ist.
TOY STORY 3 wurde zum derzeit erfolgreichsten Animationsfilm
überhaupt, wovon auch die Bekanntheit des Kurzfilms profitiert.
Nicht nur die optische Attraktivität der Neuheit des S3D-Films,
schon fast eine eigene Filmgattung, sondern vor allem finanzielle
Erfolge durch neu aktivierte Besuchergruppen und erhöhte Eintrittspreise
lassen weitere solcher Filme in kurzer und langer Form folgen.
Jüngst reaktivierte Warner Bros. die erfolgreichen LOONEY TUNES
und schaltet drei neu produzierte Cartoons mit Road Runner und
Wile E. Coyote in CGI und S3D vor ihren Familienfilmen COYOTE
FALLS, FUR OF FLYING und RABID RIDER. Sie locken so manchen
Looney-Tunes-Fan in Spielfilme, die er sich sonst vielleicht nicht
angesehen hätte. Für CGI-Filme entwickelt sich S3D praktisch zum
Standard, kaum ein Animations-Langfilm, der noch flach in die Kinos
kommt.
Auch deutsche Animations-Kurzfilmer setzen auf das neue Format
S3D. Die Berliner Produktionsfirma MovieBrats, bestehend aus Alex
Weimer und Ester Friedrich, arbeitet derzeit mit Regisseur Vito La
Manna an ihrem ersten S3D-Kurzfilm WATERSOUL. Im Stile eines
Mangas legt man bei der CGI-Produktion besonderen Wert auf das

3, Pixar presented a completely new structural form in the short
DAY AnD nIGHT from Teddy newton. Between the two handdrawn
silhouettes of the two figures Day and night, scenes from
our world happen. These are computer generated in the Pixar
style – with a dimension of depth. In DAY AnD nIGHT, cartoon
animation and cGI are combined, as indeed are deep images with
flat ones, masking the stereoscopic 3D content. An amazing effect
that also contributes to the story.
TOY STORY 3 has become the most successful animation film at
present – through which the recognition of the short film also
profits. not only the optical attractiveness of the novel S3D film,
which is almost like a new film genre, but also the financial consequences
resulting from the newly activated audience groups and
the increased ticket price will ensure that further S3D films follow,
both long and short.
Recently, Warner Bros. reactivated their successful LOOnEY
TunES and slotted in three newly produced cartoons with the
Road Runner and Wile E. coyote in cGI and S3D before their family
films cOYOTE FALLS, FuR OF FLYInG and RABID RIDER.
In this way they are tempting some Looney Tunes fans to the feature
films who would have perhaps not bothered seeing them
otherwise. For cGI films, S3D is developing into the standard,
with hardly any flat feature length animation films still making
it into the cinemas.
